Port Blair, Jan 8: The Port Blair Municipal Council has ensured resumption of skilled training for the job of Assistant Electrician under Employment through Skill Training & Placement (EST&P) component under DAY-NULM scheme. The training resumed at the empanelled training centre (i.e) M/s SWADHIN, Prothrapur after being suspended for several months owing to COVID-19 pandemic
The present batch comprises of 30 students from within the municipal area. These students are identified from the economically weaker families. The duration of the course is 3 months. After completion of the course the students shall receive a certificate for having undergone accredited skill training. They shall be further supported with placement options too.
The Employment through Skill Training & Placement (EST&P) Component under NULM is designed for unskilled urban poor to provide their employability skills and also to upgrade their existing skills. The programme is aimed at enabling them to set up self-employment ventures and /or for taking up skilled jobs in the private sector. The EST&P Programme intends to fill the gap between the demand and availability of local skills by providing skill training programmes as required by the market.
EST&P component of DAY-NULM also envisages placement opportunities and setting up of self employment venture at the end of the course.
