Port Blair, Jan 25: Working towards its commitment of Zero-tolerance to any organised crime, the North and Middle Andaman district police has achieved a big success. Two cases under NDPS Act for the possession of Ganja have been registered and the quantity seized is over 1 Kg. in both the cases.

There was an information that some people are involved in the trade of ganja around Rangat and Kadamtala. SHO/Kadamtala and SHO/Rangat, through their sources started working on this information. On 23rd January, Insp. Usman Ali (SHO/Kadamtala) received credible information that some persons are moving ganja in a car from Rangat towards Kadamtala.

A trap was laid after following due process and they were intercepted along the way. From their car, the recovery of over 1 Kg of ganja was affected. Two persons, namely Sohag Roy and Swapan Sikdar were arrested and a case was registered under NDPS Act at PS Kadamtala.

Based on their interrogation, parallel raids were conducted in the areas of PS Rangat and Billiground under the supervision of Sh. Hukmaram (SDPO/Rangat). During one such raid, another recovery of more than 1 Kg. was made from Milan Krishan Roy R/o Bakultala by Insp. Preetam Behari (SHO/Rangat) and his team. Case was registered in PS Rangat against him under NDPS Act. Police custody of the accused persons has been taken and further investigation is on.
