Port Blair, Feb 3: The Sub- Divisional Legal Services Committee, North & Middle Andaman in association of District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands organized a Legal Services and Awareness Camp on 02/02/2021 in the premises of Rampur Gram Panchayat, Mayabunder. A large number of people including Advocates, Legal-cum- Probation Officer, DCPU, Govt. Officials, school going children, adolescent girls and women folks participated in the event.

The camp started with the introductory address by Shri. Jimut Bahan Biswas, Additional District & Sessions Judge -cum- Chairman, Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee, Mayabunder. Thereafter Shri. Rajkumar Naiya, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mayabunder, Shri. Vikramjit Sen, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mayabunder, Shri. Keshab Chandra Mondal, Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO Act), Smti. Sunita Sharma, Sr. APP, Shri. Pradeep Ram, APP attended the camp and also spoke on topics of child rights, women rights, fundamental rights and duties with special focus on POCSO Act.

Shri. Sudipta Kumar De, Secretary (Law), Andaman & Nicobar Administration -cum- Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was present as Chief Guest and explained to the people, especially children about the POCSO Act and explained about the beneficiaries of free legal aid before court of law, role of State and District Legal Services Authority, various machineries of the Justice delivery system available for redressel of the problems, the procedure of approaching and utilizing various channels available for redressing of grievances i.e. the Police , the Executive and the Judiciary, sensitized women and girls about their rights as provided under various laws.

At the conclusion of the programme, an interaction session was held during which the judicial officers had cleared the doubts as to questions raised by the audience.

The vote of thanks was given by Shri. Saw Thomson, Ex- Pradhan, Rampur Gram Panchayat, Mayabunder and expressed his gratitude for organizing the camp and also suggested to ensure the attendance of legal experts/ panel advocate from DLSA at the Gram Sabha meeting in the future. The entire event was organized maintaining all COVID-19  guidelines and social distancing norms.
