NGGOS Express Serious Concern, Demand Reduction in Excise Duty of Petroleum Products
Port Blair, Feb 17: The Non Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, A&N Islands has expressed serious concern at the sky rocketing prices of petroleum products. The Association demanded immediate roll back in prices of Petrol, Diesel and LPG.
The daily increase in prices of Petrol and Diesel in last ten days has resulted in an unprecedented burden on common man especially employees and workers. At Port Blair the prices of Petrol and Diesel have reached at a record level of Rs 75.32 and Rs 74.84 respectively on 17th February, 2021.
In the last two months LPG prices have also gone-up by Rs 175 per cylinder and is reported at an all-time high Rs 845. It is a double whammy on ordinary citizens as fuel getting expensive when they have less money in their pockets due to the economic recession. As per the existing system, the oil companies are fixing the prices of petrol and diesel on day today basis according to the international price of crude petroleum.
As on today the petroleum price at International market is 63 dollar per barrel. It is pertinent to mention here that we were getting petrol and diesel at a lower price than the present level even when the petroleum price touched 140 dollar some years ago.
The real reason behind the abnormal price rise of petroleum products is huge excise duty and road cess on petrol and diesel. The Non Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N islands has demanded reduction in excise duty of petroleum products to give relief to the common man including employees and workers.
