Port Blair, March 9: Port Blair Municipal Council celebrated International Women’s day with Women Self Help Groups formed under DAY-NULM on the 8th of March at Dairy Farm, Community hall. On this occasion, Secretary PBMC, Smti Anjali Sehrawat, IAS was the Chief Guest. Among the other female dignitaries, Dr Suja Anthony, Deputy Director, Department of Health Service, Ms Anjali Nag, Leading Advocate and Smti Shanta Lachman Singh, a renowned social activist from the Islands were also present .
International Womens day is celebrated to honour all women and their achievements regardless of caste, creed, nation and along with rest of the world. The DAY-NULM team, Port Blair Municipal Council, Port Blair celebrated this day with great fervour in the presence of members from 62 different Self Help groups. On this occasion Secretary, PBMC stressed on the importance of being a women and promised to render all kind of support for upliftment and growth of Self Help groups under DAY-NULM from Port Blair Municipal Council. All other dignitaries spoke of their areas of specialization relating to welfare of women encouraging and motivating them to be self reliant in all aspects of life and to be ready to face all kind of challenges.
On this occasion, a souvenir was released by Secretary PBMC showcasing the achievements and activities, trainings related to SHGs for past one year. Various cultural events such Rangoli competition, best SHGs were also held and prizes were distributed by the dignitaries to the winners.
