Port Blair, March 11: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands while appreciating the efforts put in by the A & N Administration for the ongoing vaccination drive of Health Care Staff and other frontline workers, has urged the administration to vaccinate all the school teachers working in Government, Govt. Aided and Private un-aided schools.

The General Secretary in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary had cited the example of few states like Rajasthan and Gujarat where schools teachers are also included in the priority group along with other frontline workers for vaccination. He further urged that these teachers may also be treated as frontline workers as the normal classes for Class IX to XII had already started in all the schools and sooner than later other children will also have to attend normal classes at their schools. The Association has requested the Administration to provide vaccine to all these school teachers as a special case considering the risk of infection from Covid-19 and safety of children at the re-opening of the schools after summer vacation in these islands.
