Port Blair, March 18: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Nicobar District organized one day Block level Orientation Programme on Gender Budgeting under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) in the Gram Panchayat Community Hall of Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar Island on 18th March 2021. Shri. Aditya Kumar Asthana, DANICS, Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay graced the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the gathering Shri. Aditya Kumar Asthana, DANICS, underscored women empowerment in the context of the present scenario by equally providing all opportunities to them. He urged the women to take the message of Gender Budgeting and in turn asked them to spread among others to make a vibrant society. The community approach is required for upgrading and bringing the women to the mainstream society for which Gender Budgeting will serve as a vital tool, he added.

Dr K.Venkatesan, Assistant Professor and HOD, Department of Home Science, JNRM, Port Blair was the Master Trainer of this programme as a key resource person and delivered a lecture on Ministry of Women and Child Development Schemes and Initiatives for Gender Budgeting, Gender Budgeting Tools and Techniques on Civil Society Perspective. Further, Dr K.Venkatesan gave hands-on training on the Analysis of the Schemes in Gender Budgeting Perspective.  He exhorted the women to be torchbearers for sending the message across these islands.

Smt.Lalita Tigga, Block Development Officer, Campbell Bay, spoke in detail on the scope and development of women empowerment and Gender Budgeting in Rural Development. She touched upon the success stories of women by sharing the case studies. Smt.Sulata Samaddar, Mukhya Sevika, ICDS (TP) Campbell Bay spoke on the welfare of women and children in rural and tribal areas and underscored the paramount importance of Gender

Budgeting. Earlier Mrs. Neelam Kumari, District Coordinator, MSK,  welcomed the gathering, and Mr. Kaushik Dakuya, Social Worker, DCPU proposed the vote of thanks. Altogether 100 participants from various departments such as ICDS, Health, Police and SHG women took part in the programme.
