Port Blair, March 23: Coastal Green Zone, a voluntary run initiative observed “World Storytelling Day” on 20th March in Kataidera village of Kadamtala Panchayat in a natural surrounding with the theme “kahani on open space” to highlight the importance of the day.
Story telling fosters creativity, imagination, speculation, articulation and the art of telling stories amongst others.
In this ambit Master Mohit Roy, Ritesh Roy and Ansh Minj narrated short stories - “Toofano se ladai” from Andaman Nicobar ki lokhkathai, “A school for Fish” from Amjum Tales and a motivational story “What happened to the shawl?” written by Arvind Gupta respectively to the children and villagers in a natural surroundings. Stories are also uploaded in the social media to connect the story lovers.
Besides creating a bonding, environment oral storytelling provides rich opportunities to reminisce and helps to connect our past to our present. Oral storytelling also fosters creativity and encourages visualization.
CGZ also observed ‘World Forestry Day’ on 21st March 2021 in No. 3 dam area with active cooperation and support of Kadamtala forest range office. The main objective of the field visit programme was to promote environmental stewardship among the children. On the occasion, resource persons of the forest department conducted different interactive sessions - Birding, nature trailing, identification of various flora and fauna. The children also enthusiastically participated on that outdoor activities.
