Port Blair, March 23: The Swaraj Dweep Islands known for its breath taking sunsets and turquoise blue waters with beautiful white sandy beaches, rich coral reefs and forest enjoys the well-deserved reputation of being a traveller’s paradise.

To give an aesthetic view to the most famous location of Asian Continent having a Blue Flag certified beach, the District Administration’s initiative of “PROJECT BLUE” is gaining popularity. Blue Flag beach is an eco-tourism model endeavouring to provide sustainable infrastructure for the tourists visiting Swaraj Dweep. The project aims to beautify the whole length along the road side in first phase of the project, covering a stretch of 2-3 kms.

The Project Blue initiative has been the brain child of Chief Secretary, A & N Administration Shri. Jitendra Narain, IAS and Principal Secretary (Revenue) Shri. Vijay Kumar, IAS. Universally associated with the sea and sky, a natural phenomenon well-known the world over, blue instills a sense of inner stability.

The Assistant Commissioner, Shaheed and Swaraj Dweep, Shri. Lakshay Singhal, IAS under the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS instigated the general populace to have a holistic view of the thought, which was readily accepted by the trading community of the area. At the first instance, few shops have been coded with blue colour by the native citizen on their own cost.

Shri. Bidhan Mondal, owner of Shivay Restaurant was exalting in spirits on mentioning that his source of income has boosted ever since the place has been given an alluring look in blue colour.

Our Country has always been exalted and remembered fondly as the country of symbolic colors. To an outsider, the colorful culture, streets, and stories seem like a page out of an ancient folk tale. But color, in essence, has been a large part of the Indian consciousness. Hence, the District Administration, South Andaman appeals to the general public and business community to get connected to this movement as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and to get the sheds of their houses, hotels and shops painted with shades of BLUE to attract more number of tourists.
