Shefali Das Starts Contributing towards her Family Income After Getting Trained
Port Blair, March 26: The Flagship scheme of NRLM is focused on helping the rural public especially women to become self-employed through SHGs. A unique feature of this program is the formation of village-level institutions by the women themselves, facilitated by local level para-workers known as Community Resource Persons (CPRs). These SHGs provide the rural woman a platform to get together, pool resources, and initiate a collective enterprise.
Like any other village woman, Shefali Das could not think beyond the four walls of her house until she became a member of Star SHG under Krantiveer Village Organization of Diglipur Block.
After entering into SHG, she got a training, which made her contribute towards family income. Being a good homemaker, she was confident that she too can do something within her household premises along with the day-to-day household chores to support her family financially.
Poultry farm was something she opted for, as she could perceive and was confident that this livelihood option could sustain with ease giving her profitable business.
The loan of Rupees One Lakh (1,00,000/-) which she borrowed from the Village Organization was her first journey towards economic independence. With that money, she had started a poultry farm at her house. Presently she is earning an amount of Rupees Twenty Thousand per month (20,000/-) from the farm. She had also repaid 30% of her loan.
Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary (RD) articulated that these inspirational stories of indomitable spirit & powerful transformation will inspire poor rural women all over to join such robust networks & become change agents in ushering an inclusive society that recognizes and values the poor in their quest for empowerment.
