Port Blair, April 11: Rurban Mission is an attempt to make our rural areas socially, economically and physically sustainable hamlets. The Mission strives to strengthen rural areas by providing economic, social and infrastructure amenities. In A & N Islands, the Ferrargunj Block was selected by the Administration as the Rurban Cluster.

Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, Secretary (RD/PRI) in presence Shri. Vinay Kumar Jindal, Director (RD/PRI), Shri T.N.Krishnamoorthi, Chief Engineer & Administrator, ALHW, and other Villagers inaugurated the HDPE Floating Jetty and Footpath beside seashore areas at Chouldari(Veer Savarkar Park under Critical Gap Funding of Rurban Mission implemented by Rural Development/PRI/ ULBs in A & N Islands.

The HDPE Floating Jetty and Footpath at Chouldari was constructed by ALHW  with an estimated  cost of Rs. 70.58 Lakhs consist of Footpath, SS316 Hand Rails, Aluminium Ladder with G.I vertical railing and different accessories like HDPE cubes, connecting pins, side fixation unit, PE fenders, belaying pins, G.I link chains 16 mm dia, GI D shakles, boat cleats and boat fenders etc…

The size of the Floating jetty is 30.00 M x 3.00 M and berthing of size 17.00 M x 4.00 M. which would facilitate fishermen community for berthing of their Denghi. Solar Lighting facilities will also be provided in the area for attracting more Tourist and Tourism related activities such as safe/adventure water sports activities, Fun Fishing, Para Sailing etc.. The Jetty would act as catalyst for the development of Rural Tourism activities.

The Jetty can also be used for accessing the nearby islands like Flat Bay. which is being developed as another tourist destination by the Administration. The    Viper Island is also assessable from the said HDPE Jetty. As a result of this, the socio-economic landscape of the fishermen and local youths would improve sustainably by generating Self Employment and attracting more investment by the investors in the field of Tourism.
