Port Blair, June 4: The President of Nicobar Youth Association, Mr. Rayhaan Pasha has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to establish the necessary infrastructure for Covid Care Centres in the Nicobar Islands as the Covid-19 pandemic is creating havoc across the world and causing major turmoil in the lives of millions of Indian. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands have also been badly affected by this pandemic, and maybe the number of cases can be increase day by day in our Islands. A number of recent initiatives taken by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to control the wrath of this pandemic are much appreciable. However, even after numerous efforts of the Administration, the situation is getting more complex and worrisome with each passing day.

He also state that it greatly pains to say that unlike the capital city Port Blair where the inhabitants can easily access medical facilities for Covid-19 treatment during this distressing pandemic situation, so far till now there is no such Covid Care Centre facilities available for the tribal population in the Nicobar Islands. He brought to kind notice that even though substantial funds are available with the Tribal Welfare Department under various heads, they have not been used for the optimal development and welfare of the tribal people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for quite some time. Moreover, till date, in the Nicobar Islands, there was not even a single Covid Care Centre available exclusively meant for the tribal people.

The President Nicobar Youth Association thus requested for considering the present condition as well as foreseeable future situation based on present circumstances to sanction the funds available under the Tribal Welfare Department for the establishment of necessary infrastructures in the Nicobar Islands.
