Port Blair, June 20: Rotary tanker (Tamilnad Kidney Research) foundation dialysis unit was today symbolically dedicated to the people of the islands by Rotary International President Elect Shekhar Mehta virtually from Kolkatta in the virtual presence of Rotary District governors of Kolkatta, Chennai, Australia, Pillar Hospital management, Port Blair, members of tanker foundation and members of Rotary Club of Guindy and Rotary Club of Port Blair at the Pillar Hospital today.
This 6 bedded facility has been established at a cost of Rs 45 lakhs consisting of 6 high end Dialysis machines, RO plant, generator, furniture’s, related civil infrastructure and has been donated fully by the Rotary Foundation under its global grant project Spearheaded by Rotary club of Guindy with contribution from Rotary Club of Port Blair, Australia, Malaysia and Mauritius.
The facility will be run under the technical supervision of tanker foundation at Pillar Hospital and will be formally opened to the public by July 2021 at a subsidised rate. The rate will be charged to cover the operational and consumable costs, for chronic kidney disease patients.
With the operationalising of this facility shortly, a much needed health infrastructure to augment the facility available with the government will be available for the benefit of the islanders.
