Port Blair, June 27: Nayan Sarkar was arrested as an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, U/s 14 Foreigners Act read with sections 465/468/471/120(B) IPC on 07.05.2021 by CCS Police Station. He had come to India on a Bangladeshi Passport and Visa on 02.11.2015 and had become illegal immigrant after expiry of his visa. As an illegal immigrant he had acquired Indian identity documents like PAN card, Aadhar card, birth certificate.
Nayan Sarkar came to Andaman & Nicobar in the year 2017 and has been working for his livelihood here. During investigation it was revealed that an Ex-Councillor of PBMC had issued Residence Certificates for Nayan Sarkar, his brother and parents who are also illegal immigrants in India. These residence cards facilitated issuance of Voter Identity Cards for Nayan Sarkar, his brother and parents. Investigations revealed that mother and father of Nayan Sarkar who were issued Voter Cards from Andaman and Nicobar have never been in the Islands.
The Ex-Councillor was arrested on 22nd May 2021 and was given 3 days Police remand. Further, investigations are continuing for issuance of Election Voter Cards to illegal immigrants to India.
General public is requested to be eyes and ear of the police and report about any Bangladeshi to the police. The name of the informer will be kept secret.
