Port Blair, June 29: In accordance with the Law of the Roman Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Visuvasam Selvaraj as the new Bishop of Port Blair Roman Catholic Diocese.
The formal announcement of this appointment was made today 29th June 2021 at 3.30 pm. The date and time of consecration and taking charge of the Bishop will be communicated later, the President, A&N Catholic Association (ANCA) informed today.
The appointment of Rev. Fr. Visuvasam Selvaraj as the New Bishop has been hailed by various Catholic institutions and associations in the islands. The Local Catholic Association headed by Ms. Bindiya Banerjee, President has congratulated Fr. Selvaraj and said that this appointment has been long awaited and the association prays that the Almighty guides Fr. Selvaraj in leading the Catholic community of the Islands.
