Port Blair, July 5: Andaman & Nicobar Islands today witnessed the first ever pregnant lady getting vaccinated today the 5th of July 2021. Mrs. Avinash Kaur, Wife of Mr. Sachin Kumar working as a Receptionist at Megapode Nest Resort is eight months pregnant and had volunteered to come forward for her first dose of COVISHIELD vaccine in spite of all her troubles.

Speaking to the scribes at the JNRM Vaccination Centre, Kaur said that she is clear in her mind with the vaccination. She has the active support of her husband and family members in this regard which acted as a morale booster for her.

Soon after her first dose of vaccination, Kaur like others was kept for a 30 minute observation to which she responded well. Avinash Kaur said, “I feel fine after the vaccination. I wish to call upon all pregnant ladies in the islands who are hesitant to get their vaccine doses to come forward. The vaccine is safe and will ensure the safety of the child and mother”.

When Andaman Chronicle contacted Sachin Kumar late in the evening to find out about the status of Avinash, he said that his wife is absolutely fine and doing well. There are no symptoms or side-affects noticed, he added.

Meanwhile, the Centre Incharge, Dr. Rajiv Ghosh expressed his happiness that the first ever pregnant lady from the islands has voluntarily come forward to receive her first dose. Ghosh before the vaccination had counselled Avinash Kaur and explained her that the vaccine is absolutely safe for both mother and child.

With Avinash Kaur becoming the first pregnant lady to get vaccinated, Ghosh said that this will set standards for all pregnant ladies in the islands to come forward without hesitation to get their vaccine doses.
