Port Blair, Sept. 15: A delegation of Forest Labour Union led by its President & Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma discussed various grievances and demands of the workers of the Chatham Saw Mill with the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Saw Mill Division Chatham on 15.09.2021.
Major issues discussed were related to modernization of mill machineries at Chatham saw mill, conversion of labour barrack at Haddo into type-I quarters, renovation of rest room for FRLD section, early settlement of pension cases, appointments on compassionate ground, filling up of vacant posts, amendments to the Recruitment Rules for the post of Assistant Saw Filer & Assistant Mill Gunner, early sanction of Children Education Allowance to the workers etc.
After elaborate discussion, the DCF, Saw Mill Division, Chatham has assured the Member of Parliament that as regard to demands related to infrastructure development, the same will be considered by projecting the requirements in the 3 years Action Plan (2020-2023). As regard to the grievances of the workers related to service matters, the DCF Saw Mill Division said that necessary process has already been initiated and shall be settled as per rule at the earliest.
