Changes Name of Mt. Harriet to Mt. Manipur, Lays Foundation Stone for Various Other Projects

Port Blair, Oct. 16 The Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah on Saturday 16th Oct. 2021 virtually inaugurated the Humphrey Strait Creek bridge from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island at Port Blair.  The bridge has been named ‘Azad Hind Fauz Setu’. It is the longest bridge in Andaman and Nicobar Islands of 1.18km in length. The Home Minister also inaugurated 49 Health and Wellness Centres in the islands by upgrading the existing health centres.

Shah also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for health and development projects, including Cath Lab at G.B Pant hospital and 50 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital in Port Blair. This modern Cath lab will provide treatment facilities to heart patients of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He also inaugurated a 42KLD slug treatment plant in Port Blair along with energy management centre.

The name of historical place Mount Harriet near Port Blair was changed to ‘Mount Manipur’ in honor of the royal family members who were kept at this place after Anglo-Manipur War in 1891.

The Home Minister also inaugurated the extension of Junglighat Jetty in Port Blair. He laid foundation stone for Integrated Command and Control Centre in Port Blair under Smart City Mission. Shah also the laid foundation stone for building 555 houses under PM Awaas Yojana.
