Port Blair, Oct. 19: On the evening of 18th October 2021, two girl students of BA II year reached their College Girls Hostel at Port Blair at 6.30 PM by Boat from Sheed Dweep (Neil Island) for attending regular classes. They are the regular hostellers of the said Hostel. Upon their arrival in the premises of the Hostel, Smti. Leela Mani, Chief Warden did not allow them to enter in the Hostel in spite of their repeated requests.

Finding no other alternative, they contact with the office of the National Students’ Union of India, Port Blair, which is a wing of Indian National Congress Party meant for welfare of the Students. Shri MA Sajid, State President, NSUI and other office bearers reached the spot and despite of their request, the Chief Warden was adamant and refused to allow the students in the hostel.

As the situation became very worse, Smti Zubaida Begam, President, Andaman Mahila Mondal, Port Blair, had intervened and later after taking up the issue with the higher officials, the Principal JNRM, Dr. Hemanth Kumar Sharma directed Chief Warden to allow both the girl Students to stay in the Hostel.

In this regard, a delegation of NSUI and Andaman Mahila Mondal today met with the Principal in his office, who assured that such incident will not take place in future under any circumstances. Sharma also expressed his displeasure on the attitude of Smti Leela Mani, Chief Warden.

The NSUI team has strongly condemned the attitude of Smti Leela Mani, Chief Warden, as it has been alleged that the Chief Warden has been repeatedly creating such situations with the inmates of the hostel. NSUI demanded replacement of Chief Warden on priority basis for the welfare of the Girl Students hailing from difference remote Islands.
