Port Blair, Oct. 21: The A&N Police today held a commemoration parade at Parade ground, Police Lines, Port Blair to pay homage to valiant Policemen who laid their lives at the altar of duties.
Senior Police officers led by Shri Satyendra Garg, DGP, A&N Island laid wreath at Martyrs Column, Police Lines. Names of two Police personnel of Andaman & Nicobar Police, namely Y.Rama Krishna, ex-HC and Kawaldhari Yadav, ex-PC who lost their lives during the year were read out by DGP, A&N Islands, during the mention of Police personnel who sacrificed their lives during the year in the country.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across the nation in memory of all the Police personnel who lost their lives in discharge of their duties. The history of Police Commemoration Day goes back to 1959 when on 21st October a patrolling party of CRPF was ambushed by Chinese soldiers at Hot Springs in Ladakh. Since then, every year, 21st October is observed as the Police Commemoration Day. As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in the year 2020, 377 Police personnel made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
From 21st to 31st October, A&N Police will hold various commemorative events including painting/drawing competition, Essay competition, Tree plantation, Police Band Shows, Awareness programme on Fire safety & security and Cleanliness drives to bring awareness in the general public about the services rendered by Police personnel in ensuring maintenance of public peace and tranquillity. Police forces work round the clock to maintain law & order, act as the first responder to natural disasters and general safety and security of the citizens.
All citizens are requested to observe and participate in the events to respect the Police personnel who serve the society day and night for their safety.
