Port Blair, Oct. 27: The Non- Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands have expressed serious concern over the unchecked spiralling prices of essential commodities in these islands.

Shri T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Association, in a letter addressed to the Secretary and Director (Civil Supplies) as well as the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District has invited their attention towards the uncontrolled price rise of various day to day essential items during the past few weeks.

The prices of several food items like Onion, Vegetables, Chicken, Meat have increased manifold, which is making the common people and the government servants difficult to manage their daily budget, who are already facing the brunt of increased price of cooking oil, petrol, diesel and LPG.

He also pointed that this indiscriminate rise in the price of essential items by the traders of these islands, is going uncontrolled as the Civil Supplies department and the Administration has failed to keep a check on the market price of essential items.

The Association has demanded immediate effective measure by the Administration to arrest the unjustified abnormal price rise in the markets in these islands.
