Port Blair, Nov. 8: The Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today informed the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration that he has been receiving complaints that specialized eye surgery for Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implants is not being performed in G B Pant Hospital since last several months.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament pointed out that most of the people in Andaman & Nicobar Islands are from remote Islands and for them arranging money for eye operation in mainland hospitals is a difficult task. G B Pant Hospital is the only hope for most of the Islanders in Andaman & Nicobar and going to mainland is next to impossible for a large section of Islanders.
The Member of Parliament informed that as per public complaint, there are some faults in the Eye surgery equipment because of which the specialized eye surgery for Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implants is not being performed at G B Pant.
Sharma requested the Chief Secretary to intervene in this matter and issue necessary directions to the Health Department to repair the Eye surgery equipment so that surgery for Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implants can be performed at G B Pant Hospital.
