Port Blair, Nov. 21: It’s a matter of pride for A&N Islands, especially for the tribal community of Nicobar group of Islands that for the first time ever, the traditional virgin coconut oil prepared organically by the tribal community has been recognized and launched at a grand function at New Delhi. The virgin coconut oil was launched by Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs during the inaugural function of the National Tribal Festival at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi on 16th Nov. 2021. This is the first ever tribal product from the islands to be launched in a large scale at New Delhi.

The launch was possible because of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s vision to build and new and prosperous India by empowering its tribal communities. The launch was also possible because of the sincere efforts of Shri Pravir Krishna, IAS, Managing Director of TRIFED who had been showing keen interest in promoting the organic product from the remote Nicobar Islands.

The initial efforts to market the virgin organic coconut oil was done by Mr. Rayhaan Pasha in the year 2015. Later being inspired by the Managing Director of TRIFED, Mr. Rashid the Founder and Advisor of Tribal Development Cooperative Society Ltd. (TDCS) put his best efforts to gather all traditionally made virgin organic coconut oil throughout the islands of Nicobar, which was timely dispatched to New Delhi.

“The launch of the Nicobar Virgin Organic Coconut Oil will remain a source of inspiration for the entire tribal community and has sent a good signal to the nation that the TRIFED under the dynamic leadership of Shri. Pravir Krishna means development for the tribal communities across the nation, reaching the most remote tribal lands. The tribal people of Andaman & Nicobar islands look forward for a continues marketing support from TRIFED, which will become source of decent livelihood for the tribes of Nicobar islands, hoped Rashid, Founder and Advisor of TDCS.
