Port Blair, Dec. 10: The Department of Agriculture, Rangat Zone, Middle Andaman in association with Union Territory Agricultural Management Agency (UTATMA) organized two “Demonstration on Vermi Composting” in the field of Shri. Promotho Mondal, Kadamtala and in the field of Shri. Sidharth Sankar Das, Uttara on 09/12/2021 as per approved Block Action Plan for the year 2021-22.
At the outset Smti. S.C Rekha, Assistant Director (Agri.), Rangat welcomed the gathering and explained the benefits of conducting such programmes. She also explained the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to the soil and ultimately the ill effect to human health. She motivated the farmers to adopt organic farming. She also distributed the inputs to the beneficiaries.
Shri. Dinesh Majhi, Agriculture Assistant, briefed the farmers about the importance of organic farming and various schemes implemented and subsidy pattern provided by the Agriculture department to promote organic farming in the farmers’ field.
Shri. Jeyraj, ATM and Shri. Naga Muthu, ATM demonstrated about the preparation of vermi composting using vermi bed. This programme was attended by neighbouring farmers in the beneficiary's field.
The demonstration programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri. Amar Kumar Sadhu, AFA, Uttara.
