Port Blair, Dec. 15: On 10th Dec at about 1326 hours, MFV Akshra, which had departed from Junglighat fishing harbour, Port Blair for fishing with 05 fishermen onboard, reported engine failure at sea. MFV Akshra  had left the harbor on 8th Dec and had reached 20 miles off Spike Island.

On receipt of information, the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters at Port Blair diverted Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ships C-146 and Durgabai Deshmukh to provide assistance to the distressed fishing boat. On arrival at datum, the Coast Guard Ship embarked its technical team onboard the fishing boat to carry out necessary rectification.

However, due to non-availability of required spares onboard the fishing vessel the defect could not be rectified.  Thereafter, ICG Ship Durgabai Deshmukh took MFV Akshra under tow and entered Port Blair harbour at 2305 hours on 11th Dec 21. The fishing boat alongwith 05 fishermen was safely handed over to Department of Fisheries, Port Blair.
