Port Blair, Dec. 19: The number of Motor vehicles in Andaman & Nicobar Islands has drastically increased in the past few years, these motor vehicles emit various kinds of pollutants including gases and solid matter, to protect the environment of these emerald islands, we need to have control over the vehicle emissions.
The vehicle owners are advised to reduce smoke emission by adopting walking, riding instead of driving for going short distances and they are hereby encouraged to use public transport instead of the private transport. Further, they can opt for carpool to reduce the carbon footprint. They are advised to switch off the engine, when waiting at the junctions.
In a drive to check the pollution by the vehicles, all general public is advised to get the vehicular smoke emissions level checked and obtain PUCC (Pollution Under Control Certificate). Vehicles emitting excess smoke and failure to produce PUCC will attract penalty as per M.V(A) Act, 2019.
Moreover, it is also advised to renew all vehicle related documents such as road tax, insurance etc. and additional documents of permit, fitness etc. for commercial vehicles and to carry them either in original or in DigiLocker/mParivahan app. Driving vehicles without valid documents will also attract penalty as per M.V (A) Act, 2019.
