Port Blair, Jan 27: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) on Wednesday celebrated the 73rd Republic Day at Gandhi Bhawan, Port Blair in which prominent leaders and activists participated with great enthusiasm and exchanged greetings. The programme was presided by ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder.
Mr. Halder unfurled the National Flag which was followed by National Anthem. He also distributed sweets to the party cadres.
Addressing the party leaders and workers, Mr. Halder said that Republic Day reminds us the significance of Indian constitution which stands guarantee to equal rights for every section living in the society.
He said that January 26th was chosen as the date for celebrating Republic Day because on this day in 1930 the Indian National Congress revealed the declaration of India’s independence from the colonial rule.
He further said that Indian constitution is unique, which takes care and respects the aspirations of every caste, religion and guarantee them equal rights. It should be the bounden duty of the every political party, social groups and especially general public to save the constitution, which is indicative of India’s beauty and its acceptance as the largest democracy of the world.
"Congress Party shall continue to fight and defeat the forces harming the very foundation of the Indian constitution and wont’ compromise on its stated position of safeguarding the constitution and working towards Nation building, peace and development", he added.
Those who were present on this occasion included Hon'ble Member of Parliament and AICC Secretary Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker, Senior Congress Leader Mr. Hamid Ali, City Congress President Mr. Mohd. Zubair, Youth Congress State President Mr. Elayaraja Alsu, NSUI State President Mr. M.A Sajid besides various other party activists and block presidents.
