Port Blair, Feb 11: On 09 Feb 2022 at around 1730 Hrs, a 58 Yrs old private labour, namely Shri Armugam, while riding his bicycle along the jetty at Campbell Bay lost his balance and fell into the sea.

Spotting the man in trouble, the ship staff of DSS vessel MV Chuglum, who were engaged in unloading of cargo from the vessel at the main jetty, immediately swung into action and ran towards the incident spot with the lifebuoy onboard vessel. The ship staff threw the lifebuoy attached with buoyant line, towards the man in sea, and cautiously brought back the man in distress safely to the shore.  

In the meantime, the ship staff also reported the matter to Port Control Tower Campbell Bay for immediate Medical attention.  Later a Medical Team alongwith Ambulance arrived at the spot and shifted Shri Arumugam to PHC Campbell Bay.

The above prompt, sensible and immediate action by the ship staff of MV Chuglum had succeeded in saving a precious life, which was wholeheartedly appreciated by general public.
