Port Blair, July 1: As part of road safety awareness drive, an awareness camp on first aid treatment was organised by A&N Traffic Police in collaboration with GB Pant Hospital on 28th June, 2022 in the conference hall of PS Aberdeen. Shri Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS (Inspector General of Police, L & O), was the chief guest in this awareness camp. Shri Kalaivanan R. IPS, SP (South Andaman District/Traffic), Shri Abhishek Gupta, SDPO (SA)/Dy. SP (Traffic) and more than 100 people participated in this programme.

At the outset, Shri Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS sensitized the public about the importance of wearing helmet and seat belt. He also highlighted about the importance of Golden Hour while providing First Aid to the injured as this period is very critical as the chances of survival depend on this window period and also explained the responsibilities of a Good Samaritan.

Later, Shri Kalaivanan R., IPS explained that first aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person suffering from either a minor or serious illness or injury and everyone of us must have the basic training of providing first aid.

Further, Dy. SP (Traffic) Shri Abhishek Gupta highlighted that many a times it is the commercial drivers such as auto rickshaw/tour and travels who are asked by public for giving assistance to the injured for taking him to hospital. In the meantime, if commercial drivers have some basic first-aid training, they can save a precious life in the Golden Hour.

Dr. Amitabha De, CMO (NFSG) of GB Pant Hospital in his audio-video presentation educated A & N Police Personnel, the general public and auto/truck/van/bus drivers about the procedures of performing CPR and providing first aid techniques to the victims of road accidents/venomous bites/drowning/fire/electric shock. Practical demonstration of CPR was also given to the participants.

To create wide awareness amongst the general public, various road safety awareness programmes are being conducted by A&N Traffic Police. Apart from this, road safety awareness classes, meetings with public service vehicle drivers, Nukkad Nataks and free eye testing camp are being conducted. More than 900 drivers/staff of various departments/ general public have participated and benefited from the classes/meetings/camps.
