Port Blair, Aug 16: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded age-relaxation of 5 years in respect of all categories of posts advertised by the APWD and Secretariat recently for the local candidates.  In a letter sent to the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee while appreciating the decision of the A & N Administration to advertise 127 posts of various categories in APWD and 556 group ‘C’ posts of clerical, stenographic and other categories, brought to the notice of the Lt. Governor that the Administration had not appointed any candidate against any vacant post during the last 3 years.

Similarly, no recruitment advertisement for any of the posts was made by the Administration during the last four years due to Covid 19 and other policy decisions. Shri Ayyappan told the Lt. Governor that the local candidates in the islands did not get any opportunity to participate in any recruitment examinations conducted by the A & N Administration during the last several years.

Shri Ayyappan further told the Lt. Governor that a large number of local unemployed candidates, who became over-aged due to passage of time without getting any opportunity to participate in any recruitment examinations, are unable to apply for these posts.  CPI (M) told the Lt. Governor that it was not their fault that they did not get any opportunity to compete. Shri Ayyappan apprised the Lt. Governor that if these over-aged local youths do not get a chance to compete for the posts advertised now, they will never get a government job at the very place where they were born and brought up and sought Lt. Governor’s intervention in the matter.
