Port Blair, Sept. 14: Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary (RD&PRI)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman along with Shri. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, South Andaman visited the Wandoor Gram Panchayat on 14.09.2022 and inaugurated the waiting shed for 20 commuters with toilet facilities for Male, Female and differently abled citizens at Wandoor on 14.09.2022 under RURBAN Mission. The project has been completed at an estimated cost of `13,89,450/- (Rupees Thirteen Lakh Eighty Nine Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty only). The Secretary (RD)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman stressed that creation of assets is one thing but maintenance of the asset should be strictly taken into account. He further directed that Self Help Groups may also be involved for hygiene and sanitation and the asset may be maintained as a pay and use model.

The newly constructed fish landing centre at New Wandoor was also inaugurated by the Secretary (RD&PRI). Shri. Adhir Das, Pradhan, Wandoor along with Gram Panchayat members, Samiti members and Zilla Parishad Member of Wandoor Gram Panchayat were present during the inaugural function. The project has been completed at an estimated cost of `17,74,615/- (Rupees Seventeen Lakhs Seventy Four Thousand and Six Hundred Fifteen only).

The Secretary (RD)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman expressed his happiness over the inauguration of the Fish Landing Centre and stressed that with the dedication of fish landing centre for community use, it has fulfilled the long pending demand of the people especially fisher folk of Wandoor and its adjoining area.

With the new facility in place, the fishermen can now take up their fishery related activities in more organized way. Referring to the enormous potential for fisheries in these islands, the Secretary (RD) stated that there is need to exploit the vast potential of natural resources available in this sector.

He further added that since the Fish Landing Centre is in close proximity to the shore and Wandoor being a place of Tourist attraction, utmost care should be taken for solid and liquid waste management in that area.  He further re-iterated that the assets may be maintained as a pay and use model involving local community for effective maintenance.

The Secretary (Rural Development)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman also appreciated the efforts of the Implementing Agency in making the assets available for general public for community utilization.
