Port Blair, Sept. 29: Alongwith the rest of world, the World Heart Day 2022 was observed in A&N Islands today to raise awareness about the rising concerns of heart health and cardiovascular diseases. The theme for the observance was ‘Use Heart For Every Heart’. Let’s take this day as an opportunity for everyone to stop and consider how best to use heart for humanity, for nature and for themselves.
As part of the observance, various screening camps and awareness programmes were conducted in all health institutions across the Island. A special NCD screening camp was organised at Govt. Saw Mill, Chatham in association with Doctors and Staff of Community Medicine Dept., ANIIMS, RBSK and H&WC Haddo. Dr. Omkar Singh, Nodal Officer (NPCDCS) highlighted the causes, risk factors and healthy behaviour to prevent heart diseases. More than 130 staff were screened, diagnosed and further referred to G.B Pant Hospital and AYUSH Hospital.
Meanwhile, World Heart Day was celebrated at Cath Lab, GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair in a befitting manner in the presence of Addt. Medical Superintendent, Dr. Arpita Saha as the chief guest. Dr. Srikant, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist highlighted the theme of the day ‘Use Heart For Every Heart’. In addition, Dr. Arpita Saha spoke about the importance of the day. This was followed by a health screening camp of health care workers conducted by Dr. Srikant. S alongwith the Cardiac team.
