Port Blair, Nov. 24: Kala Utsav, an initiative of the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India was launched in 2015, to promote Arts in Education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country. The MoE recognizes the importance of aesthetics and artistic experiences for secondary-level students for creating awareness of India’s rich cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity.

The focus of Kala Utsav 2022 is on any of the styles of traditional folk and classical art forms. The art forms included for competitions for this year are: Vocal Music (Classical & Traditional folk), Instrumental Music (Percussive & Melodic), Dance (Classical & Folk), Visual Arts (2-dimensional, 3-dimensional& Indigenous Toys) and Drama (Solo acting)

As part of this effort, the district level competitions were held on 2nd week of November 2022. Based on the performance, the selected art forms from the district level participated in the State Level Competition held on 23rd & 24th Nov. 2022 at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School Auditorium.

Altogether 53 participants (27 boys & 26 girls) have displayed their talents in all ten art forms, which were evaluated by a team of external jury members as per the evaluation sheet provided by the NCERT at the venue.

The State Level Competitions was witnessed by the Secretary (Edn.) and Senior officials of the Department of Education.

On successful completion of the State Level Kala Utsav, 2022, the results were announced in the presence of the Secretary (Education) who graced the function as chief guest today. The winners of State Level Kala Utsav competition are rewarded with cash prize @ ₹ 1000/-.

The selected art forms in each category will represent the UT at National level competition to be held at RIE Bhubaneswar from 3rd Jan, 2023 onwards.

The chief guest, Smti Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary (Education) congratulated the winners and extended her warm wishes to the participants who will be representing the UT at National level competitions to begin from 3rd Jan, 2023. She also appreciated the talent of the students and requested the mentors to extend their full efforts to prepare the students for National level competition.
