Port Blair, Nov. 27: The Delegate Session of the 9th Andaman & Nicobar State Conference of CITU was held at Atul Smrity Samity Hall (Bengali Club), Port Blair today (27th November, 2022). Com R. Surendran Pillai, President of the CITU State Committee hoisted the CITU flag at the venue of the Delegate Session, followed by Delegates and Observers paying floral tributes to martyrs at a specially erected Martys Memorial Column at the venue of the Conference. The session was inaugurated by Shri AK Padmanabhan, All India Vice President of CITU.
In his address Shri AK Padmanabhan said that despite losing a number of its leaders during Covid 19 pandemic, CITU continued its fight, taking up various issues of the working class. He said that working class should know for which section of the society the present government is working. He said that the government is working only for the benefits of the corporate in the country. He further said that farmers under the banner of Samyuktha Kisan Morch were fighting against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, which, if passed, will deprive the farmers of the benefit of lower tariff of electricity, thereby increasing the cost of production for farmers. Referring to the callousness of the central government and A & N Administration towards the issues pertaining to the workers in these islands, he called upon the working class in the islands to strengthen the CITU so that in the coming days more and more issues pertaining to the workers can be taken up and movements conducted.
In his Presidential Address, Shri R. Surendran Pillai, President of CITU State Committee explained the anti-working class attitude on the part of the A & N Administration and called upon the Delegates to continue to carry out the movements in their respective areas/sectors. The Delegate Session paid homage to the departed leaders through a condolence resolution. Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee presented the report on the functioning of the CITU for the last 3 years while the Treasurer Shri Shyamal Kolly presented the Audited Accounts. A number of Delegates from different parts of the union territory participated in the discussion on the Report. General Secretary replied to the discussions and thereafter both the report and audited accounts were unanimously passed by the Delegate Session.
Shri SP Kalairajan presented the draft resolutions which were passed by the Session after discussion and inclusion of additional resolutions. About 125 elected Delegates and observers from various parts of A & N Islands attended the Delegate Session.
