Port Blair, Dec. 1: Shri Vishal Jolly National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI has written a letter to Chief Secretary, A&N Administration for issues pertaining to construction of village road, school infrastructure, footpath, etc. which are seriously affecting the lives of people belonging to Katchal, Teressa, Chowra & Nancowry group of Islands.

In his letter he raised the following genuine facts regarding appalling condition of services rendered by the Andaman Public Works Department at Katchal, Terrasa, Chowra and Nancowry group of Islands, which requires immediate intervention. During his recently concluded tour to Nicobar District, he witnessed the following facts, which were indicated Island wise.

KATCHAL ISLAND

In the village namely Sola Tekri, there are around 60-70 families residing and in no house there is any toilets, bathroom etc. The GOI under the Swatch Bharat Mission is pressing hard to ensure that all households do have toilet & bathroom facilities. As such, this issue may kindly be taken up on priority basis.

There is no footpath connecting this 60-70 families within this village.

Likewise, in Meenakshi Ram Nagar village as well as E-Wall village the road & footpath is in extremely bad condition. There is no compound wall for the playground and as such Pigs in large numbers usually found entered into that playground and as a result of which the playground has now become a hub of large number of Pigs. 

There is no Bus stand anywhere in the entire Katchal Island.

In Mil Dera area where the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers were settled, also the playground needs major maintenance works and the football Goal post needs to be permanently fixed.

In Japan Tekri area, the school footpath from main road to the school needs to be constructed.

The Classrooms in the Japan Tekri school required major repair works, bench and tables are in a dilapidated condition.

Kapanga School requires a playground.

Jhoola village to Jamsin (W/Bay) Road requires major repair.

The Anganwadi needs to be re-opened after proper construction at the earliest as the same was closed after Tsunami and never reopened thereafter.   

TERESSA ISLAND

In the entire Teressa Island, all the 7 village roads and all main roads are in a very bad condition as there was no maintenance works carried out since past 12 yrs.

The available water here is not at all potable, as such RO may kindly be installed at Minyuk, Chukmajhi, Kalasi, Bangali villages.

The Office Building of the Tribal Council requires major repair and renovation works.

CHOWRA ISLAND

In this Island, the medical facilities are in a bad shape, the medical building as well as dispensary are in a dilapidated condition, requires major repairs. 

The machine installed for converting salty water into potable water is under repair since long and it is yet to be repaired.

The width of the Footpath connecting villages need to be widened by at least 2 meters in order to ensure that the Ambulance and other four wheeler vehicles gets sufficient space to drive.

The Government employees are forced to reside in absolutely dilapidated Govt Quarters and this is one reason for most of the Govt Servants avoiding transfer to these Islands. Need to repair and renovate all the Govt. accommodation buildings.

The Govt. Quarter meant for staffs and officers of Civil Supplies Department is in completely damaged condition as the roofs are fully rusted and waters pours in heavily during rainy season.  

The Chowra Power House also requires major repair and renovation as the roofing is completely rusted and damaged, allowing rain water to pour in heavily.

CHAMPION ISLAND (NANCOWRY)

The main road is fully damaged and not motorable (approximately 4.4 Kms).

One number of Sintex or any other Water Tank having capacity of 2000 liters may kindly be provided for using the same for drinking purpose especially during summer season.

Construction of 3 meters width Footpath, shelter to shelter and from main road to permanent shelter is an absolute necessity.

Graveyard road, Sea Shore road needs to be repaired.

A new Powerhouse is required to be constructed.

A new Sub-Centre is required to be constructed.

The playground requires RCC fencing.

New Anganwadi centre with toilet, store room, water tank and RO is required.

Residential Govt Quarters meant for Teachers requires major renovation.

Govt. Sr.Sec. School building maintenance work is to be regularly carried out.

Desk and Bench in Schools are in completely damaged condition and they are also short in numbers.

Water harvesting Tank needs to be constructed for securing drinking water.

KAMORTA ISLANDS

Chota Enaka to Bada Enaka, Vikas Nagar, Kakana, Pilpillow village road are in a very bad condition. These are the main roads that connect the villages.

In Chota Enaka school, RO plant is required to be installed.

In Gol Tekry area, the students studying in 08th, 09th, 10th and 12th Classes of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School requires Tables, Benches, as it is not available. Furthermore, surprisingly there is no Post Graduate Teacher of Physics in this school since past several months and the academic year is coming to end soon. Therefore, a PGT-Physics may kindly be immediately posted in the said school. 

In Kamorta Fishermen Village, the footpath of 1.5 meter already exists but the same is not motorable and therefore in order to ply ambulance and fire service vehicles, the width of the same is required to be extended by at least 2 meters more. 

The drainage Nallah near shops opposite to Krishna Temple Road is too small and therefore drain water gets logged. As such a culvert is required to be constructed and the said Nallah needs to be widened.

PILPILLOW

In this village, the drinking water in schools, wells of villages are absolutely unfit and unhygienic for human consumption.

At least 06 numbers of RCC Ring Wells are required to be constructed. 

3 meter wide CC footpath of about 1000 meters length from main road to Church and various residential shelters are required to be constructed.

In Kakana village, RO plant is not available for school and villagers and therefore an RO plant may be installed.

Further he mentioned that the vision and mission of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Mananiya Narendra Modi Ji that Water, Electricity, Road, Health facilities and every other basic amenities of life reaches every villages and connects with every citizen of our country may kindly be ensured in these isolated tribal populated Islands.

Accordingly, he requested to sort out these issues at the earliest, in the interest of welfare of people and to ensure that people residing in these isolated Islands resides conveniently and without any struggle.
