Diglipur, Jan 23: On 24/12/2022, Indian Coast Guard apprehended 46 Myanmarese Poachers along with 04 Engine Dinghies near East Island and a case under Maritime Zone of India Act, 1981 and Foreigners Act 1946 was registered against them at PS Central Crime Station and is being investigated by Dy.SP (CID) Kumar Abhishek. During sustained interrogation, the Myanmarese Poachers revealed that some local residents of Hara Tikrey Village under PS Kalighat Jurisdiction met them several times last year at Hiran Tikrey, Kishori Nagar and provided the poachers various logistical support. In return the poachers had provided these local residents Mobile phones, Solar Panel, Batteries, underwater Torches, watch etc. for providing them logistical support.
From the investigations carried out till now, various articles provided by Myanmarese poachers have been recovered from local residents namely Sanju Toppo, Paulus Gari & Rajender Singh from the jungles of Hara Tikrey by a team comprising of SI Parvash, HC S.Baroi, PC Amos George, PC Bijoy Das and these local residents have been arrested in the case. Investigation of the case is under progress and a few other local residents of North & Middle Andaman are also suspected to be involved in the nexus with foreign poachers.
General Public of Andaman & Nicobar Islands are requested not to interact or aid the Foreign Poachers in the Indian Territorial Waters. Foreign Poachers not only plunder our precious marine wealth but also pose serious national security threats. Hence, General public is hereby informed that whenever any foreign intruder/poachers is seen either at sea or in land, immediately information may be passed on to the nearest police station or to Police Control Room (03192- 232100) or the Coast Guard authorities.
