Port Blair, Feb 1: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to organise sea swimming competition from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (NSCB) Island (erstwhile Ross Island) to Aberdeen Jetty, Port Blair

In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, he mentioned that before 2018 for continuous four years, the Department of Youths had organized a sea swimming competition from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (NSCB) Island (erstwhile Ross Island) to Aberdeen Jetty, Port Blair.

He said that as Andaman & Nicobar Islands are surrounded by water, youths of these Islands had a huge liking towards swimming. “The event was so popular that other than local youths, a good number of senior citizens and Jawans from uniformed forces also used to participate in the event. For local youths, the event was a challenge to test their physical stamina and the event was also a great source of motivation for young children.

Due to COVID-19 this event could not be organized since 2019 and after COVID situation has become normal youths are waiting anxiously for this popular event.

Member of Parliament thus requested the Lt. Governor to intervene in this matter and also to direct the Department of Sports to organize the event from this year onwards for the all-round development of Andaman youths and swimming lovers.
