Port Blair, Feb 5: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to recommend naming three more Islands after three brave martyrs of these Islands: Martyr Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, Martyr Ramesh Singh and Martyr M. Dilli Rao, with the Government of India.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor the Member of Parliament expressed his appreciation for the recent decision of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to name 21 Islands of Andaman & Nicobar after the Param Vir Chakra awardees. This is a fitting tribute to all the brave soldiers of India, who have sacrificed so much for our country.

He added that Martyr Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, Martyr Ramesh Singh and Martyr M. Dilli Rao are sons of the soil and their sacrifice may be honored as they have laid down their lives for our nation.

Giving details about three Martyrs, he mentioned that Martyr Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, a brave youth from Andaman & Nicobar Islands laid down his life fighting militants in Jammu & Kashmir on 20th July 2000.

Born on 14.03.1966, Martyr Ramesh Singh was in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 85 Battalion 881165769, got martyr on 20.10.1996 at Phoruchak, Kashmir, while fighting against terrorists. He suffered 36 bullet injuries.

Martyr M. Dilli Rao Gunner of 51 Field Regiment (Artillery), another brave youth of these Islands laid down his life fighting insurgents in Assam on 13 July, 2002.

He requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to take up this matter of naming three more Islands after these brave martyrs, Martyr Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, Martyr Ramesh Singh and Martyr M. Dilli Rao.

He said that this would be a fitting tribute to their sacrifice and would serve as a reminder of their bravery to future generations.
