Port Blair, March 17: As part of its massive modernisation programme, Veterinary Hospital Junglighat has acquired a sophisticated digital X-ray equipment yesterday, thus fulfilling the long felt demand of the livestock farmers, especially the pet owners of the Islands who had been demanding for X-ray facilities for the last so many years. The machine was inaugurated by Smti Nandini Paliwal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (AH&VS) in the presence of Shri B S Jaglan, Secretary, (AH&VS), A&N Administration during their maiden visit to the Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat.  The Director (AH&VS), Dr. Ashok Gupta and other senior officials of the Department were also present during the visit.

Purchased at a cost of Rs.12.22 lakh under UT Sponsored Scheme, this computer-controlled equipment will save considerable time and money as there is no need to use films. High quality X-ray images of injured animal will be displayed in the monitor immediately, said the SVO, Goalghar, who is the In-charge of the Hospital.

This machine has the capacity to store more than 30,000 images. On an average, 500 images are being taken every year. Adequate training has been imparted to the Technician to operate the system. The cost of films, processing chemicals and time for processing will be completely eliminated with the new process. Later, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (AH&VS) inspected other facilities of the Hospital viz. OPD Section, Disease Diagnostic Lab, Small Animal Operation Theatre etc., a press release from the Deptt. of AH & VS said.
