Port Blair, March 22: In its bid to develop and promote scientific Animal Husbandry practices among the farmer and unemployed youth, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services provides related training to interested farmer and inputs in terms of chicks, ducklings, reared poultry birds and piglets etc. through its Composite Livestock Farms situated in different Islands of this UT.  During the current year, upto Jan 2023, 1,35,820 number of dual purpose Vanraja chick and reared birds were distributed to 2248 beneficiaries. Similarly, 18033 ducklings of Kuttanad and Vegova duck breeds were distributed to 774 farmers.

Further, to promote piggery as a good and cheap source of animal protein, 393 numbers of piglets of large White Yorkshire & Indigenous Gunghroo breed were distributed to 210 farmers.
