Port Blair, May 31: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief General Manager of BSNL, A&N Telecom Circle to install free Wi-Fi hotspots in 70 panchayats of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with 24 wards of Port Blair city and seven Tribal councils under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as excess bandwidth is available with BSNL.

He said that presently Andaman & Nicobar Islands has a Bandwidth of 6 TB but we are hardly utilising only 200 GB of Bandwidth and hence setting up such free wifi hotspots by utilizing the excess bandwidth will be a great help for local youths, till all these recruitment exams are over.

In a letter addressed to the Chief General Manager of BSNL, A&N Telecom Circle, the Member of Parliament mentioned that several government departments have recently published numerous job vacancies and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration is preparing to publish thousands of more such job vacancies in the near future. As coaching for competitive exams is not available in remote Islands, the youths of our Islands are in dire need of high-speed internet for attending online coaching classes for various competitive exams.

He mentioned that these hotspots can be operated for 3 to 4 hours a day so that all youths can take advantage of high speed internet in every corner of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

“These free Wi-Fi hotspot facilities will ensure that youths in all corners of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands can access high-speed internet services so that they can prepare themselves for competitive exams by attending online coaching classes,” he added.
