Port Blair, June 20: Together with the rest of the world, the 10th edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be observed in A&N Islands too on June 21, 2024. The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Yoga for Self and Society’. As part of the Yoga Day celebration, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in his letter addressed to all Gram Pradhans, has urged them to make holistic health a people-led movement by spreading more awareness about Yoga and Millet.

Meanwhile, the UT Administration has designated 46 prominent locations across all the three Districts of the UT for the Mass Yoga Demonstrations on 21st June, 2024. The main function will be held at Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School Auditorium from 5.45 am onwards on June 21, 2024. Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency will grace the function as the chief guest. The Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray will be the guest of honour. There will be a live telecast of address of Hon’ble Prime Minister from the National Venue at Srinagar.

The IDY observance is based on a harmonious mass yoga demonstration of a custom made 45 minutes protocol namely, Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). The District Administration/ District Health Society of all the three Districts of A&N Islands will organize mass yoga demonstrations at various places in the respective Districts.

In addition, mass yoga demonstrations will also be organized at all health institutions and by various Central Govt. Department/Organizations, NGOs etc. at different venues across the UT.

All the Govt. Servants and general public have been urged to participate in the yoga session at their nearest venues on the day from 6 am onwards.
