Port Blair, July 6: The three days long training programme on ‘Marine Ornamental Fish Breeding’ by Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration in association with ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin culminated today. The valedictory session was inaugurated by Shri Vikram Singh, Director of Fisheries at Fisheries Training Centre, Marine Hill in the presence of Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Officer In-Charge, NIOT, Dollygunj and Scientists of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin among other dignitaries.

The 1st day of the training programme dealt with theoretical sessions related to setting up of aquaria, overview on commercially important ornamental fishes, live fish feed culture among other topics. The 2nd  day of the training programme included visit to Departmental Aquarium-cum- Museum, Aberdeen Bazaar, wherein practical demonstrations on theoretical discussions were imparted to the trainees on setting up of marine aquariums, live feeds, working of filtration systems and clown fish and damsel breeding set up etc.

The final day of the training programme included exposure visit to the campus of NIOT, Dollygunj where they were exposed to various Mariculture facilities, Algal culture and instrumental Lab Setups. Dr. Anuraj     A and Dr. Ambarish P Gop, Scientist, ICAR-CMFRI imparted insights and knowledge to the trainees during this training programme.

The three days training programme on ‘Marine Ornamental Fish Breeding’ concluded with Shri Vikram Singh, Director of Fisheries motivating the trainees to avail benefits under Departmental Schemes for taking up Mariculture activities. He stressed on the importance of KCC and PMMSY in this regard. He also assured that all the necessary support will be provided by the Department to the trainees in taking up such activities including imparting of advanced level training to the trainees in the facility of ICAR-CMFRI, Vizhinjam Centre.

Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Officer- Incharge, NIOT, Dollygunj ensured that all the necessary technical support will be provided to the trainees and urged the Department of Fisheries to initiate similar training programmes in association with NIOT, Dollygunj.

Dr. Ambarish P Gop, Scientist, Vizhinjam Regional Centre of ICAR- CMFRI assured that ICAR-CMFRI will provide all their field expertise to our trainees in near future also. Dr. K Gopal, Joint Director (Fisheries) and Smti. V. Sheeja, Deputy Director (Fisheries) presented their views on this occasion and encouraged the trainees to take Mariculture activities in improving their livelihood.

The Valedictory function concluded with Feedback sessions and distribution of certificates to the trainees on successful completion of the training programme.
