Rangat, July 6: Taking a unique initiative, a ceremonial tree planting programme as part of Van Mahotsava celebration in Middle Andaman Forest Division was organized with eminent women citizens to promote women empowerment. The event included an inaugural function & mass tree planting programme in the campus of the Forest Labour Club, Bakultala today with the active participation of school students.  In the programme, 16 eminent women citizens from the local villages were specially invited as the guests. They participated in the inaugural function and planted seedlings to mark the occasion. 

The students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bakultala & Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Panchawati along with their teachers took part in the programme with great zeal & enthusiasm. They planted seedlings and presented a cultural programme and a mime, highlighting the importance of celebrating Van Mahotsava.  The local Head of Offices, Officials of various other Departments & PRI members participated in the event & planted seedlings on the occasion.

The gathering was addressed by Shri Thomas Varghese, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Middle Andaman Division, who highlighted the importance of forest and how to conserve it without depleting its natural resources. Among the guests present, Smti Sita Majhi, Pramukh, Rangat & Smti Madhura Ekka, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Sabari also shared their views and experiences with the students, enlightening them on the matter.

Earlier, Shri Anil Saha, ACF (MA) welcomed the participants. All the special invitees were felicitated with mementos by the Tehsildar, Rangat, Deputy Education Officer, Rangat, Assistant Director, Agriculture and Officers of Forest Department.
