Port Blair, Aug 4: The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) successfully conducted the A & N State Under-07 Chess Championship cum Selection Trial for the 37th National Under-07 Chess Championship 2024 at the ANCA Chess Centre, Dairy Farm.

Ms. Debasmita Bal, Assistant Director of the Sports Authority of India, Port Blair, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. She made the ceremonial first move on the top board to kick off the championship. In her speech, Ms. Debasmita praised ANCA’s efforts in organizing the event and assured possible support from SAI. She encouraged the young participants to play with passion and let the lessons from chess guide them through life’s challenges.

A total of 40 young chess players enthusiastically participated in the A & N State Under-07 Chess Selection Championship. Based on their performance and the final standings, the following players have been selected to represent the Andaman & Nicobar Islands at the 37th National Under-07 Chess Championships 2024, which will be held in Mysuru, Karnataka, from September 1 to 5, 2024

Final Standings   

Boys: R. Medanth- First,    M.Lavish – Second, P.Siddanth - Standby

Girls: K.Hemanshi – First, N.Shreenika  - Second, R.Vaishnavi - Standby

Additionally, the best three players in the Under-06 category were awarded prizes. In the Under-06 Boys category, Udayvir Singh stood first, followed by M Ritwik in second place and Yuvansh in third. In the Under-06 Girls category, N Danusri took first place, with Deettya S and S Gnanashreeka securing second and third positions, respectively.

Special awards were given to V.K. Nuhaan Siddque as the best youngest boy and D. Neharika as the best youngest girl player.

Shri. Harminder Singh, Director of Tribal Welfare, A & N Administration, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest, while V K Najib Siddique, Proprietor SIDZERN, and S. Mathik Kumar, Junior Engineer, APWD, were the guests of honour. They presented trophies and certificates to the winners and extended their best wishes to the selected players for the upcoming National Under-07 Championship.

The selected players are requested to submit their consent letters for participation by August 10, 2024. The consent letters can be sent via WhatsApp to 9434293379 or delivered to the ANCA Office at Dairy Farm. Failure to submit the consent letter will result in the next player in the final standings being considered for participation.
