Car Nicobar, Aug 12: In a significant step towards digital governance, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, inaugurated three different Digital reforms at Nicobars District today viz. District Information System, Free Wi Fi Access point and Online Helicopter Ticket Booking/Guest House/Transit/Quarter Allotment.
This initiative is set to enhance accessibility to essential online services and streamline the administrative processes for the residents of Car Nicobar, Nancowry and Campbell Bay.
The District Administration Nicobar has made substantial strides in digitizing its services. All manual services and certificates are now available in a digital format, marking a shift towards a more efficient and user-friendly system. This change ensures that all certificates and administrative processes are handled online, significantly reducing the need for physical paperwork.
Free Wi-Fi Access: The newly launched Wi-Fi access point will enable residents to access various online services directly without any data charges.
Comprehensive Web Page: A District Information System webpage has been launched, offering a range of online services and the Govt. portal can also be accessed by visitors.
With the launch of these services, two previously manual services have now transitioned to online mode: through URL:https://sites.google.com/view/dcnicobars/ i.e. Helicopter Ticket Booking & Guest House/Transit/Quarter Allotment.
Citizens can now submit applications and view passenger lists through an integrated online platform. All relevant links and resources are available on the District's website and within the premises of respective Sub-Division Offices.
This move positions Nicobar Deputy Commissioner Office as the first paperless Office within the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The transition to a fully digital service model aligns with the District Administration's goal of providing ‘Maximum Service with Limited Resources’. The aim is to alleviate daily challenges faced by citizens and enhance overall service efficiency.
The District Administration Nicobar, led by the Deputy Commissioner, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing service delivery through technology. With the successful launch of free Wi-Fi and a comprehensive online services platform in Car Nicobar, the Administration is now focusing on extending these benefits to all cut-off Islands within the district.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner has also announced a pilot project to introduce online services to the three remaining cut-off Islands viz. Chowra, Katchal and Teressa.
This initiative aims to replicate the successes achieved in Car Nicobar, ensuring that residents of these remote Islands also gain access to essential digital services. She also congratulated all the team members for taking the initiative for in-house development of the above digital reforms without any financial implications.
The launch event was graced by Shri Piyush Singh Vijaykaran, AC (HQ), Shri Anuj Kumar Bharti, (PO, ITDP) and several other line Department officers. The local tribal leaders expressed their gratitude to the A&N Administration for addressing the daily challenges faced by the tribal communities and focusing on the development of Nicobar District.
