Port Blair, Aug. 29: All Islanders have been informed that the Andaman and Nicobar Administration shall be conducting a Mock Exercise simulating scenario of an earthquake followed by tsunami on 30.08.2024 from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs as a part of State Level Mock Exercise-2024. This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of our life and property in our Islands.

The mock scenario will simulate an earthquake with a subsequent tsunami alert and the residents may hear sirens, receive emergency notifications, and see emergency response activities. No actual danger will be present, and the exercise will be clearly communicated as a drill.

In some areas, residents may be asked to participate in evacuation drills by moving to designated safe zones. The goal of this exercise is to test and improve the effectiveness of our emergency response plans, communication systems, and evacuation procedures. Public participation is crucial to the success of this drill, as it provides valuable insights into real-world preparedness and response capabilities.

The residents have been requested to stay informed and make sure that their contact information is up-to-date with local emergency alert systems and if instructed, follow the evacuation procedures and move to designated safe zones.

It is further requested to inform family, friends, and neighbours about the upcoming exercise. This is a planned exercise, and there is no real threat to public safety. Please do not be alarmed by the activities or alerts during the drill. The cooperation of general public is essential to making this exercise a success. This exercise, will involve emergency responders, Government officials, and general public, aimed to test and enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of all involved.

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has requested the general public for their cooperation and support in making this exercise a success.
