Ograbraj, Aug 31: Police Station Ograbraj, under the South Andaman District, has taken a commendable initiative aimed at fostering community safety and awareness. The station spearheaded an extensive programme to educate residents on new criminal laws, the ill effects of drug abuse, cybercrime, the POCSO Act 2012, and traffic violations, with experts from each respective unit leading the sessions.
On August 31, 2024, an awareness programme was organized at the Community Hall in Tushnabad by SI Devanand Pathak, SHO of Police Station Ograbraj, in coordination with Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Pradhan of GP Tushnabad. The event also involved other PRI Members of the Panchayat and dedicated team members from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, Cybercrime Police Station, Traffic Unit, and the Police Entertainment Team (P.E.T). Over 60 students and members of the general public were sensitized during this comprehensive session.
During the awareness session, Inspector Pritam Behari, SHO of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, along with SI Rahil Islam from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, briefed the general public on the ill effects of drug abuse. The Police Entertainment Team (P.E.T) performed a skit depicting real-life scenarios, providing valuable insights into the dangers of drug use.
Following this, SI Agnes Bartholoma, Juvenile Welfare Officer of Police Station Ograbraj, informed the audience about the POCSO Act 2012, emphasizing the importance of protecting children from sexual offenses and explaining its key provisions. Meanwhile, PC Wilson Toppo from the Cybercrime Police Station educated the public on various forms of cybercrime, including how to report such incidents effectively. The session was further enhanced by a drama conducted by the Police Entertainment Team (PET), which vividly portrayed the dangers of cybercrime and the steps individuals can take to safeguard themselves.
Continuing the session, ASI Pal Murugan from the Traffic Unit sensitized the attendees about road safety and traffic regulations, emphasizing the significance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent accidents.
The programme concluded with a demonstration by Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Pradhan of GP Tushnabad, who highlighted the importance of physical fitness and self-protection. He also presented a brief act on martial arts and self-defense techniques, encouraging participants to stay fit and protect themselves in times of need.
The joint awareness session was met with widespread appreciation from local bodies and the general public. This event underscores the collaborative effort between local law enforcement and community leaders, emphasizing the vital role of legal awareness in enhancing community safety and well-being.
