Port Blair, Aug 31: The 2nd ABCD Open Badminton Tournament, organized by the Ambitious Badminton Club Dairy Farm (ABCD), concluded on 29th August 2024 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indoor Badminton Court, Dairy Farm. The tournament, held from 24th to 29th August 2024, was part of the National Sports Day celebrations, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary Hockey Wizard, Major Dhyan Chand.
The tournament was inaugurated by Shri Abhishek Bhukal, Joint Secretary, PBMC, who marked the beginning of the event by striking the first shuttle on 24th August 2024.
Around 80 players enthusiastically participated in the tournament, competing in three different categories: Open Men's Doubles, Men’s Doubles (30+ years), and Men’s Doubles (45+ years).
The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Anand Vardhan Mishra, DANICS, Assistant Commissioner (Settlement), A & N Islands, who attended as the chief guest. The occasion was also honored by the presence of R Kasthuri Bhai, the distinguished chess player from the Islands, as the guest of honour. The chief guest witnessed the thrilling final match of the Open Men's Doubles category and later presented trophies, medals, certificates and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up.
In his address, the chief guest lauded the efforts of ABCD in fostering sports awareness among the youth of Dairy Farm through the organization of such a prestigious badminton tournament.
In the Open Men's Doubles category, the duo of Gautam and Aditya emerged victorious in a closely contested match against Vishal and Rahul, winning by scores of 21-18, 17-21, and 21-19. In the Men’s Doubles (30+ years) category, Yusuf and Thiru claimed the title, with Jesu and Arvind finishing as runners-up. In the Men’s Doubles (45+ years) category, Yusuf and Ajay Kumar were the winners, while Surjit Dutta and Majeed finished as runners-up.
