Assistive aids distributed to the Divyang Students through Samagra Shiksha
Diglipur, Sept. 9: Diglipur Block Project Office of Samagra Shiksha, organized a camp for identification of Divyangjan among the children of various schools of Diglipur Zone under the Inclusive Education Program today. Parents from 60 schools of the zone came with their children with the apprehensions of disability.
Inaugurating the camp organized in the multi-purpose auditorium of Vivekanand Stadium in the morning, the Deputy Education Officer Mrs. Sulochana said, today a positive thinking is getting formed in the society towards Divyangjan. Divyang children are also no less than normal children; rather they have definitely got some talent from God. The need is to identify it and develop it. She requested the parents and guardians to take out time for their Divyang children and try to understand their needs. If the parents feel the requirement of any assistance, they should bring it to the notice of the Special Educator appointed for these students in the school, and it will be resolved. Talking about the Projects being run under the Inclusive Education Programme of Samagra Shiksha for the welfare of the Divyang students, Smti Sulochana said that apart from scholarship, many other supporting materials are made available to these students for convenience in studies.
Earlier, while welcoming the Guests, the Resource Person Ms N. Riya Nandan informed that under Samagra Shiksha, through the ‘Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’ of Government of India, the ‘Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India- ALIMCO’, that manufactures prosthetic limbs, provides assistive devices and prosthetic limbs to Samagra Shiksha for these school children.
In today's camp, assistive devices were provided to the children with special needs who were identified in the camp organized in the last session. Wheel chairs were given to ten children, while hearing aids were distributed to the children who were unable to hear and assistive devices for walking were distributed to the concerned students.
The Selfie stands placed on the occasion, succeeded in drawing the attention of the children as many students were seen asking their parents to take them to Selfie stand. The Block Resource Person for CWSN Ms S. Vijaya informed that the idea has come up with the aim to make it feel to the Divyang students that they are no less at any parameter as compared to the other students. When discussed, the Fine Art Faculty of PM SHRI Subhash Gram, agreed and designed these three attractive stands of different sizes, enabling Divyang students of all heights to get themselves clicked comfortably, celebrating some moments of happiness, she said.
In today's camp, about seventy (70) Divyang children from different schools of the zone were examined, out of which 50 children were found to be in need of assistive devices and prosthetic limbs. Samagra Shiksha would procure and get these devices to the concerned students soon, one BRC Official informed.
